There are many functions of a still camera and here I will list all of them including a description about how they are used.
Aperture/Iris: Is the hole that contracts and expands in diameter to let light into the lens.
Shutter: Changing the shutter speed changes the speed the shot is taken. The faster the shutter speed the less blurry the photo is.
Film Speed: Measured in ISO, the faster the film the grainier the image, better for taking pictures in low light. The slower the film, the image is more clear good for strong light conditions.
Mega pixels: The quality of image depends heavily on the cameras resolution, which is defined in mega pixels also know as 'MP'. More mega pixels means more detail in your image.
Optical zoom: A camera which physically zooms in.
Digital zoom: An in-camera image processing.
Viewfinder: The little hole, normally at the top of a camera that you look through to see the picture you are taking,
LCD screen: A screen attached to the camera where you can see the picture you are taking and or replay an image you have already taken.
Manual Focusing: A still camera which has manual focusing, allows you to focus the camera yourself.
